Silvermines NS takes part in European School Sports Day

Pupils from Silvermines NS took part in European School Sports Day in the school on Friday 25th September last.

Various sporting activities took part in the school as part of the Europe wind initiative to encourage children to be active and embrace sporting and recreational activities.

Plenty of research shows that being active makes students healthier and better learners in the classroom. School spirit improves too with fun and inclusive team sports.

Principal James Hayden said, “the top five reasons to join ESSD are to raise the profile of physical education (PE) and sport in schools, to create fun and enjoyment through physical activity for young people, to promote health and wellbeing for lifelong learning, to encourage social inclusion and develop social competence amongst students and to connect with other European countries.”
